If you are a U.S. citizen, you must have
a valid passport with a minimum validity
of six months (it must also have a couple
of blank pages available) and a visa to
enter Brazil. To obtain your visa, contact
the Federal Republic of Brazil Consulate
at one of the locations listed below.

This normally takes only a few days - as little as one day if you pick your visa up in person.

Citizens of the European Union can get their visa on arrival at passport control in Rio International Airport. Click here to verify if you need a visa.

Weather
When it is winter in the US it is summer in Brazil and vice-versa, so you will want to dress accordingly.
The Winter season is from June through October when the average temperatures are generally in the low 20º (70s F) to high 25º C (80s F). The rainy season is from December through March.

Health & Travel Insurance
Travel health depends on your pre-departure preparations, your daily health care while traveling and how you handle any possible medical problem. We require that you obtain travel insurance to cover any unexpected medical problems. We recommend MultiNational underwriters, inc.

Money
"Brazilian" Portuguese is the local language and the Brazilian currency is the "real" which has been trading around R$ 1.75 to the U.S. dollar (1 real is thus worth approximately 58 cents). Click Here for current exchange rates.
The only ATMs available are located at Rio Airport. US currency can be changed at Rio Airport or in Paraty.

Taxi from Airport to Rio
If you are taking a taxi from the airport to Rio, please stop at one of the taxi counters just outside the customs area exit, and pre pay, it´s much easier.
